expertise!Job Summary and QualificationsThe Certified Occupational
Therapy Assistant (COTA) is responsible for performing treatment
programs developed by the Occupational Therapist, documenting
treatment, attending team meetings, and participating in continuing
education.
- Appropriate treatment programs can include, but are not limited
to: range of motion, strengthening, sensory, activities of daily
living, cognitive / visual-perceptual activities, craft and leisure
activities, group activities, and adaptation of splints, assistive
devices, tools, and slings.
- COTA is also responsible for providing an inservice for
appropriate staff after attending an approved continuing education
opportunity.
- COTA is responsible for attending continuing education
opportunities provided by the hospital, department, or outside
sources. Completion of 3.0 CEUs or 30 contact hours of continuing
education to renew C.O.T.A. license is required every two years.
Attendance at all mandatory inservices for the hospital and
department is required. A current CPR certification is
required.
- COTA is responsible for maintaining daily attendance records
and charges for each patient. Confidentiality of all patient
records is required. Patient / family education will be
documented.
- COTA is responsible for maintaining effective communication
with all team members, family, patient, and other medical staff as
indicated. Attendance and participation at team meetings and
department meetings is required to discuss the patient's condition,
progression, plans and goals. COTA is responsible for consulting
with physicians, Occupational Therapists, and other team members as
indicated regarding requests and / or suggestions.
- COTA is responsible for performing the treatment program with
each assigned patient as developed by an Occupational Therapist.
Treatment should be implemented within the specified timeframe and
should be appropriate for the developmental needs, diagnosis, and
goals set.
- COTA is to complete all documentation within the specified
timeframe. All documentation will be completed in accordance with
department and hospital policies and procedures. Progress reports
will be completed on all patients within the specified timeframe.
The documentation will contain appropriate subjective and objective
information which provides a clear statement of the treatment
given, the patient's response to and tolerance of the treatment,
and any progress noted.
- Expectations Ethics and Compliance 1. All employees will be
held accountable for behaviors displayed relative to the values
articulated in the Mission and Values Statement. "Will act with
absolute honest, integrity and fairness in the way we conduct our
business and the way we live our lives." 2. All employees will be
held accountable for attending training regarding the Code of
Conduct program at least annually.
- Treatment should be coordinated with team members and other
medical needs. COTA is responsible for securing the necessary
supplies from the department for treatment. Compliance with all
safety, infection control, and quality assurance policies and
procedures is required. Confidentiality of the patient and
treatment is required. Appropriate communication with the
Occupational Therapists is required. What qualifications you will
need:License / Certifications / Requirements:
- Requires current Texas licensure (COTA)
- BLS certification or must obtain within 30 days of hire
dateEducation:
- Requires graduation from an approved Occupational Therapy
Assistant program. Experience:
- One year of COTA experience is preferred. This role requires
you to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 based on local, state and
/or federal law or regulations (unless a medical or religious
