Job Description Job Description Duties and Responsibilities
Knowledge of Ophthalmic terminology and equipment. Assist in
working up ALL physician patients prior to assigned physician
arrival. Review the physician's plan for any testing that needs to
be completed. Complete visual field testing ordered by the
physician; photos, OCT, topography, pachymetry, color test, etc. as
needed. Question patient(s) as to what their chief complaint is and
document it in the EHR software. Review medical history for
accuracy and make changes in the EHR software as needed. Review
patient(s) medication list for accuracy and update information in
the EHR software as needed. Conduct a visual assessment of distance
and near. Dilate and evaluate pupils and eye muscles. Conduct
patient refraction and tonometry as needed. Prepare patients for
laser procedures. Set up surgical suite for minor procedures using
proper sterile technique. Assist the physician with minor
procedures as requested. Clean up surgical suite after procedures
are complete using proper sterile technique. Obtain prior
authorizations for refills and refill prescriptions as directed by
the physician. Clean and maintain all tech areas, exam rooms,
physician areas and patient waiting rooms. Assist the physician
with surgical procedures at the Surgery Center as needed. Assist
doctor with patient calls, pharmacy calls, etc; return all patient
phone calls the same day received. Communicate all doctor
instructions to patients and/or other doctors' offices as directed;
fax reports, letters, post op visits, etc., to referring doctors.
Ensure quality care of all patients seen at ALL locations. Report
any medical equipment disfunctions at any/ALL locations as needed.
Check "desk duties" to ensure everything is completed prior to
leaving for the day. Any other duties as assigned which are
necessary to operate the clinic effectively and efficiently.
Participate in duties interdepartmentally as deemed necessary, by
clinical supervisor, clinic team lead, Administrator(s) and/or
doctor(s). Provide assistance to other clinic personnel as needed.
Organizational Functions Maintain practice and patient
confidentiality at all times. Exhibit professional demeanor at all
times while representing the practice. Maintain a professional
level and volume of communication. Participate in staff and
educational meetings and training. Perform other duties as
assigned. Qualifications Required Qualifications: High school
diploma or an equivalent GED. At least three to five years'
experience as an Ophthalmic Technician. Strong organizational,
analytical and interpersonal skills. Exceptional written and verbal
communication skills. Excellent customer service skills. Ability to
work independently, but also work effectively with others as a team
to accomplish objectives and goals. Demonstrate self-motivation,
initiative and time management skills. Ability to multi-task and
follow strict schedules. Travel to ALL locations which include
Conroe, The Woodlands and Huntsville. Preferred Qualifications:
Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or Certified Ophthalmic
Technician (COT) Bilingual Please note, candidates without
experience working in an ophthalmology practice will not be
considered for this position.
