Education: Associate degree in Engineering Technology or Computer-AidedDrafting is required.Certification: Certification is not required at this level.Experience: This position requires 12 to 20 years of relevant industrial experience incivil/structural drafting and design.Job Summary:Generally responsible for supervision and technical direction over a team of designers when functioningas a lead designer. As lead designer, responsibilities will include total delivery of the civil/structuraldeliverables and services on time, within performance budget and meeting quality expectations. Dutiesmay include performing advanced design work serving as a technical specialist for a complex designassignment. This level requires extensive progressive experience in civil/structural design and involvesutilization of project controls for cost, schedule and quality of projects. This work will be performedunder general supervision.Key Responsibilities and Duties:Primary responsibilities will include but not be limited to: Familiarity with and utilization of department design and drafting standards Recognizing and communicating project scope, specifications and design criteria upon assignment toa project task team. Reviewing and comprehending the latest information available regarding civil/structural calculations,equipment drawings and layouts or drawings from other disciplines before initiating design effort onspecific drawings. Drafting civil/structural plans under minimal supervision. Knowledge of basic civil material specifications to the extent that all information required formaterial purchase, fabrication and construction is reflected on the finished drawings. EOE/M/F/V/DJob Description Performing field related work collecting design information and verifying designs for tie-ins, functionand clearances to existing facility; on-site assistance during startup; performing field supportactivities, where assigned, for engineering support during construction; assisting engineers with costand material estimates and preliminary design studies. Checking the accuracy and quality of drawings developed by drafters, when assigned, based oninformation conveyed by engineering direction, equipment and discipline drawings; providingtechnical guidance to less experienced drafting personnel in the department. Coordinating & delegating work activities with other teammates and the discipline leads. Producing civil/structural construction scopes with engineering review and approval; able to serve inrole as a mentor for entry level and new teammates. Completing complex and difficult designs and layouts for complete systems and components ofprojects. Assignments typically involve design elements for which there may be no clearlyestablished precedents and require anticipation of problems at the outset in order to provideappropriate solutions. Performing front-end layout and design of complex systems and equipment. Ensuring compliance with required specifications, tolerances, safety considerations, and clientrequirements. Performing specialized geometric design computations and analysis. Performing interdisciplinary checks and providing coordination of data to ensure compatible designs. Assisting in the establishment or revision of guidelines and standards. Reviewing supplier data and supplier/manufacturer drawings, as required. Checking orthographic (2D) and isometric (3D) drawings prepared by others. May providedirection to a team of checking personnel, ensuring the dimensional accuracy of the drawingsproduced. Collaborating with Engineers and other engineering disciplines to ensure quality of design. Providing training to less experienced designers. Serving as Lead Designer on projects, ensuring compliance with industry codes, as well as projectand company standards. Preparing man-hour estimates as required. Responsible for the quality and economy of deliverables, and efficiency of detailing. As a lead designer, responsible for the design team meeting scope, schedule and budget.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: Knowledge and application of AISC and ACI standard details. Ability to produce drawings for concrete and structural steel, and/or civil disciplines. . Familiarity with specifications and installation details of construction bulk materials and equipment. Knowledge and application of company engineering design and CAD drafting standards. Ability to create accurate civil/structural construction documents from the information found onvendor equipment drawings. Ability to accurately estimate completion of assigned tasks. Ability to develop a construction cost estimate, a detailed engineering schedule and a man-hourbudget for a small project or an area for a larger project with engineering review and approval. Working knowledge of CAD software, either AutoCAD, Microstation or both. Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook. Good communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to develop a construction cost estimate, a detailed engineering schedule and a man-hourbudget for a small project or an area for a larger project. Ability to determine construction material quantities and coordinate with estimating department toensure that the developed quantities are correctly interpreted and input to the estimate deck. Developing construction scopes of work. Forecasting hours to complete professional services. Developing staffing plans based on deliverables to be produced and the project schedule. Identifying information required and proactively obtaining it. Coordinating with other disciplines regarding design development, changes, etc. Ability to lead a small team to deliver on commitments. Ability to coordinate with other disciplines to provide efficient equipment layouts and space usage. Ability to deliver presentations of Hargrove Engineers + Constructors services. High technical performer, with leadership skills, strong 3-D capabilities, and/or increased clientinteraction/skills. Virtual team skills and cross divisional relationships are developed, and able to provide interofficeexecution support with general supervision.
