We have an excellent opportunity for a Systems Administrator 1 to join our team.
This position will be fully onsite at our Pasadena, CA. location.
Summary:
Responsible for assisting with day-to-day Systems Administrator tasks and for supporting departmental projects and activities.
Job Duties Include:

  • Provides high-level system administration support to assigned client groups
  • Responsible for understanding and projecting ongoing IT/business needs and the ability to present such information to leaders
  • Serves as the liaison between IT and the business units
  • Trains and mentors lower-level IT staff on all aspects of the department and business needs
  • Provides escalated support on issues not resolved by lower-level staff when issues require higher-level knowledge and/or experience level
  • Manages the end-user lifecycle for all aspects pertaining to user accounts, access, software and systems in a highly regulated environment
  • Creates, updates, and reviews departmental procedures client support requests
  • Stays abreast of industry developments and continually updates knowledge base
  • Maintains backups and redundancies of all critical IT and laboratory systems
  • Secures, maintains and supports both business and laboratory environments
  • Provides ongoing security initiatives including training, education, system hardening, vulnerability scanning and remediation
  • Researches, plans for, and implements IT solutions for ongoing IT projects, current problems and future needs
  • Manages third-party vendor relations and assists with vendor risk management, including working with leadership on decisions regarding same
  • Completes assignments, tasks and jobs using independent judgment and with minimal supervision
  • Adheres to all department and company-wide policies regarding conduct, performance and procedures
  • Performs other duties as assigned. Education/Experience/Skills:
    Position requires a High School diploma and a minimum of 4 years of related experience; Bachelor's degree in an IT-related field and at least 1 year related experience preferred. Related experience includes hardware and software installation, troubleshooting and maintaining a Microsoft Windows environment in a business setting, IT support, and/or experience in system/network administration. Experience in a regulated business environment or biotech/pharma industry and with applying Governance, Risk, Compliance, and/or Cybersecurity concepts is preferred.

    Position also requires:
    • Strong functional knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Office 365, and experience with other critical business application
    • Strong functional knowledge and experience with system administration in a Microsoft environment covering hardware, software, updates, mail, storage and backups
    • Strong functional knowledge and experience with network administration covering IP networking, firewalls, routers, switches, network and security appliances
    • Strong functional knowledge and experience with endpoint administration covering desktops, laptops, phones, printers/scanners, and conferencing equipment
    • Ability to work on-call and after hours to address urgent IT matters
    • Strong leadership, teamwork and collaboration skills working with the IT team, internal business units, partners, third-party vendors and regulators
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization
    • Strong understanding of the correlation between business and IT
    • Excellent customer service and documentation skills.

      The physical, mental and working environment demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the primary functions of this position.
      The working environment for this role may include work in a research laboratory which may involve exposure to hazardous and biohazardous materials including chemical hazards, infectious agents, bloodborne pathogens and animal allergens. The use of personal protective equipment (PPE) for handling hazardous and biohazardous materials may be required. See additional requirements for jobs requiring work in the laboratory listed below.
      The physical demands of working in the office environment are normally associated with extended amounts of time sitting and using office equipment, including a computer, keyboard and mouse, which can cause muscle strain. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk and sit. Periodic light lifting of supplies and materials may apply.

      • Ability to multitask without loss of efficiency or accuracy, including the ability to perform multiple duties from multiple sources.

      • This role may involve exposure to experimental subjects and/or specimens including infected samples, plus various Hazardous Materials and infectious agents (Bloodborne Pathogens, or other potentially infections materials (OPIMs). Therefore, the following may also be required:
      • Ability to follow the established Environmental Health & Safety rules, procedures, and/or BioSafety Guidelines
      • Ability to read and understand Safety Data Sheets (SDSs)
      • Knowledge of biosafety techniques and aseptic/gowning practices Experience with laboratory safety standards and procedures, including biohazard handling and disposal techniques, and the ability to ensure laboratory compliance with required safety regulations
        Occasional travel may be required, including travel between Xencor's Pasadena and San Diego offices. Work for this position is generally performed at Xencor's worksite and requires full-time commitment.
        Position requires sporadic ability to work on-call in accordance with department schedule, including responding and resolving after hours IT-related issues.

          Expected Base Salary Range: $73,000.00 - $85,000.00
          The actual salary will be based on the selected candidate's qualifications, including skills, competencies, education and experience.
